The Economic Self Sufficiency Program (ESSP) aims to assist all island residents in building long-term economic security. The ESSP operates out of the Business Assistance Center (BAC) in the Ship Shape building located at 850 Avenue I.



The following free services are offered to island residents to assist them in meeting their financial goals:

  • Financial Management workshops ABC’s of credit
  • Banking
  • Money Management & Budgeting
  • Bankruptcy
  • Resume writing & interview skills workshops
  • One-on-one assistance to island residents to order credit reports and assistance with credit improvement
  • Opening bank accounts
  • Free Tax Filing preparation as part of the United Way's, Earn It, Keep It, Save It! campaign
  • Credit Reports
  • One on one Credit Counseling
  • Computer Classes
  • Referral to address child support repayment
